Indian Doctors Remove 50 Objects From Man’s Stomach After Five-Hour Surgery

Doctors at Devnandani Hospital in Hapur, India, successfully removed 50 foreign objects from the stomach of a 40-year-old man following a five-hour surgery earlier this month.

The patient was admitted on September 17 with severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and weakness. Medical scans revealed an astonishing collection of items in his stomach — including 29 steel spoons, 19 toothbrushes, and two pens — which stunned the attending medical team.

Lead surgeon Dr. Shyam Kumar described the case as extraordinary. “I have never seen so many foreign bodies in one patient,” he said, adding that many of the objects appeared to have been broken into smaller parts before being ingested.

According to hospital officials, the man had recently been admitted to a de-addiction centre in Ghaziabad. He reportedly swallowed the objects as a form of protest against being taken there.

Medical experts noted that his behaviour may be linked to a psychiatric condition such as pica disorder, which causes individuals to compulsively consume non-food items.

The patient is now said to be recovering well after the operation.
