Portuguese international and Liverpool forward, Diogo Jota, has reportedly passed away in a fatal car accident in Spain at the age of 28.
According to reports from Portuguese media outlets, Jota was travelling with his 26-year-old brother, André, who is also a footballer, when the tragic incident occurred.
The crash reportedly happened along the A-52 highway in the Zamora province of Spain’s Castilla and León region. Emergency services confirmed the heartbreaking news in an official statement, disclosing that the accident was reported at kilometre 65 of the A-52 in Cernadilla, Zamora.
“The 1-1-2 Castilla y León operations room received multiple emergency calls reporting a car accident at Km. 65 of the A-52, in the municipality of Cernadilla, Zamora. It was reported that a vehicle had been involved in an accident and was on fire,” the emergency services noted.
Authorities added that personnel from the Zamora Traffic Police, the Zamora Provincial Fire Brigade, and the Sacyl Emergency Coordination Center (CCU) responded swiftly to the scene.
