Gunmen suspected to be enforcers of the week-long sit-at-home order directed by a faction of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), yesterday, shot dead a commercial tricyclist and a passer-by in a thickly populated area, Akwakuma, Owerri North Local Council of Imo State.
Also, at the weekend, the yet-to-be identified hoodlums set ablaze part of a local market in Amaraku, also burning vehicles in Isiala Mbano Local Council of the state. They were said to have unleashed terror on those who failed to sit at home by force.
The daredevil men also set fire on several wares at Obolo Market in the same council. They said they were earlier warned, but the victims refused to listen to them.
According to sources, the hoodlums, yesterday, stormed the ever -busy Akwakuma Junction in a Sienna vehicle, shooting sporadically into the air, causing several persons who had gone to eke a living to scamper for safety. They quickly shot the tricyclist on the chest, leading to his death. Another passerby was hit by the bullet, and gave up the ghost.
Witnesses said the gunmen looked deadlywhen they carried out the attacks.
As at the time of filing this report, the State Police Spokesperson, Henry Okoye, was yet to respond to the incident, despite efforts made to reach him
